Palestinian journalist Omar Nazzal was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday at the ‘Al-Karamah’ crossing while travelling to Bosnia to attend a Conference.
Nazzal, who is a member of the general assembly of MADA center, and a member of the General Secretariat of the Palestinian journalists syndicate, was accompanied with other Palestinian journalists, including the syndicate’s chairman Nasser Abu Baker.
Abu Baker told PNN on Saturday that while he and all the other members of the syndicate were on their way to the European Journalist Conference in Bosnia, the Israeli authorities stopped them at the border with Jordan for more than four hours.
After all the members were interrogated, the Israeli authorities arrested Omar.
Abu Baker added that Nazzal’s arrest is just another proof of the Israeli aggression against Palestinian journalists.
Furthermore he requested for all journalists, syndicates and human rights organizations to show solidarity with another Palestinian journalist who was arrested by the IOF, Omar Lazan, in addition to Nazzal and all the other journalist who are currently held in Israeli jails.
In Bosnia, he said the Palestinian delegation will focus their speech on the Israeli ongoing violations and aggressions against media freedoms and journalists in the occupied West Bank.
By its part, the Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemned the arrest of Nazzal and called for his immediate release.
In addition, MADA condemned the arrest of Nazzal, hence, “|we call all related international organizations, and International Community to take action to compel Israel to release all detained journalists in Israeli jails, and abide by international laws that guarantee freedom of expression.”
