Ashrawi meets with a delegation from the International Labour Organization

“We strongly denounce Israel’s plans to transform the illegal settlements of Ma’aleh Michmash, Rimonim, Kochav Hashahar, and Psagot, located east of Ramallah, into a residential suburb with a population of 77,000 by 2040; the illegal outpost of Mitzpeh Danny is also part of such plans. Once again, Israel is exhibiting its blatant disregard of the two-state solution and international law and consensus. With its willful efforts to expand its illegal settlement enterprise at the expense of Palestinian land and resources, Israel is demonstrating its commitment to establishing ‘Greater Israel’ on historical Palestine.”

PLO Executive Committee Member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi made these comments following a meeting she had with representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah. The delegation was led by Special Advisor to the Director General of the ILO Kari Tapiola.

The discussion focused on Israel’s continued violations of international law, in particular in and around Jerusalem, and the internal situation, including the importance of revitalizing the political system in Palestine and holding elections.

Dr. Ashrawi stressed the significance of enabling the Palestinian economy and creating equal job opportunities for both Palestinian men and women.

Both parities also reviewed political options for the future, including the French initiative to host an international peace conference.
