Israel is Studying Qatar’s Suggestion to link Gaza with gas

According to Yediot Ahronoth Israel is to consider a suggestion by Qatar to link Gaza Strip with a natural gas pipeline to generate power, Qatar has pledged to fund the infrastructure to build the pipeline which will cost 10 million dollars.

Palestinian sources mentioned that the Qatari envoy in Gaza, Mohammad Al Imadi, met The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Major-General Yoav Mordechai last week to study Qatar’s initiative, and there will be another meeting this week.

The Qatari envoy pointed that he discussed the possibility of establishing solar power fields in Israel to produce 100 megawatts of electricity to Gaza, but Israel did not respond to the proposal yet. It is reported that Gaza has been experiencing up to 10 hours of power cuts a day.

The Israeli authorities will open the Karm Abu Salem crossing point part time today to allow some fuel into Gaza to restart the power plant that has shut down yesterday.
