PFLP: Attack on Sa’adat will not pass without action

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine warned of the repercussions of the Zionist attack on its General Secretary, Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat, and his fellow prisoners in Nafha prison, saying that the attack would not pass without action.

Sa’adat, was attacked and injured by Israeli prison guards at Nafha prison early morning Tuesday, 28 July. Sa’adat, the imprisoned General Secretary of the Palestinian left-wing political party, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was among 30 Palestinian political prisoners injured by the violent attack of the guards, who invaded multiple prison cells, forcing Palestinian prisoners out and confiscating and ransacking their belongings.

“Leader Sa’adat will remain a thorn in the throat of the occupation,” said the Front; “he is a national symbol of confrontation despite relentless attacks from the Zionist prison guards and prison system and unceasingly confronts the occupation, its policies, and the Zionist project as a whole.”

The Front noted that this cowardly attack on Sa’adat and a number of prisoners in Nafha prison is an attempt to break the will and steadfastness of the prisoners, who constantly challenge the occupier, and comes in the context of an overall aggression being mounted against the Palestinian people.

The PFLP emphasized that it is a Palestinian national responsibility to develop a comprehensive program to support the prisoners’ struggle in regional and international forums and to work on the ground in various forms to force the Zionist enemy to release them, urging that the submission of the file on Palestinian political prisoners to the International Criminal Court be expedited and relentlessly pursued. It also urged international institutions and activists to struggle to defend the prisoners’ rights and act to stop the systematic and ongoing crimes against the brave Palestinian prisoners.

In addition, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the armed wing of the Front, stated that the “fascist prison officials of Nafha beat and tortured our brave prisoners and the leader, Comrade General Secretary Ahmad Sa’adat, in a frenzied attack that has gone on for two days.” AAMB declared that they call on all comrades and the Palestinian people to deal with the ongoing Zionist aggression against the prisoners by all means of resistance, noting that the “Brigades will not stand idly by before the suffering of our prisoners and the leader Ahmad Sa’adat. The leaders of the occupation must face the results of their crimes against our brave prisoners.”

Palestinian prisoners in Nafha prison resisted, burning items in the prison cells, and Palestinians in multiple prisons declared that they would not be silent in the face of ongoing and violent attacks on Palestinian leaders and fellow prisoners.

The attacks on prisoners in Nafha began on 27 July; family visits for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza were cancelled following the attacks. The PFLP, Sa’adat’s party, issued a statement calling for action after the attack on Sa’adat and other prisoners; a protest will be held tomorrow, 29 July, in Gaza City at 10:00 am.
