Israel-Hamas negotiate return of Israeli soldiers’ bodies

Israel has initiated a dialogue with Hamas via a mediator to begin indirect negotiations with the aim of returning the bodies of two Israeli soldiers to Israel.

An anonymous senior official in Hamas said today that Israel has communicated with the movement during the last few weeks via a European mediator in order to open negotiations regarding the bodies of two Israeli soldiers, Hadar Ghuldin and Oron Sha’oul, which have been held by Hamas since operation Protective Edge in Gaza last year.

According to Hebrew radio, the Hamas source told Turkish network Anatolia that the European mediator had delivered a message from the Israeli government saying that Israel was ready to begin the negotiation process to return the two bodies.

The source added that Hamas had informed the mediator that it would not open negotiations until Israel unconditionally released all prisoners detained under the Shalit deal.
