The EU has extended its police mission for Palestine for one more year, reported news sources across the world yesterday.
The police mission provided by EUPOL COPPS is to be kept in place for another year until 30 June 2016. According to WAFA, the mission is part of extensive EU efforts to support Palestinian state-building in the context of finding a two-state solution.
EUPOL COPPS has been aiding the Palestinian Authority (PA) since 2006 in the fields of policing and criminal justice, supporting efforts to increase security and to reinforce the rule of law within PA-controlled areas of the West Bank.
A budget of 9.17m Euros has been allocated to fund the extra year.
The council also decided to extend the EU border assistance mission for Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt until 30 June 2016.
