Israeli Security Agency (ISA) ‘Shin Bet’ today revealed that it has dismantled an underground Hamas cell working in and around Nablus city.

According to Hebrew radio stations, the underground cell was working to resume Hamas activities in the West Bank. Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have arrested 40 members of the group in recent months and is working to bring charges against them.

Ynet News reported today that senior Hamas officials were among those arrested, including some who have been repeatedly detained by Israeli intelligence.

Interrogation of the detainees reportedly revealed that Hamas had been expanding its infrastructure in the West Bank city, including the development of fields such as education, charity, funding and intelligence, according to Ynet News. The cell had also been delegating tasks and responsibilities in order to streamline its activities and maximize efficiency.

Ynet News also reported that this cell had been funded by the sale of gold smuggled in through Jordan, although this has not been officially verified.
