The Ministy of Waqf and Religious Affairs condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by small groups of settlers this morning, who entered through al-Mughrabi gate and were met by the chants of worshipers in protest of their actions.
The Ministry indicated that there was a group of special police units protecting the settlers during their provocative infiltration of the mosque compound.
The mosque was filled with worshippers at the time of the incident despite strict Israeli measures at the gates of the compound and the detention of a number of women and youths as they were entering the gates.
Meanwhile, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested 7 children from Jerusalem during their exit from the mosque after praying, and detained them at a nearby police station pending investigation- the arrests were reportedly made unlawfully and without any justification.
The Ministry called on the international community to protect Jerusalem and the mosque and the worshipers from the clutches of the Israeli government. It said that Israel does not care: it circumvents all treaties and conventions put in place to protect holy sites; ignores human rights standards; and does not permit the Palestinian people to live in dignity like the rest of the world.
This comes after a decision made this morning by the Israeli government to bar Gaza residents from attending this week’s Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in light of rocket fire from Gaza last night.
